Help Clients Avoid Pain and Everyone Loses
You have to feel it to heal it is a cliché for a reason
Coaching is unregulated, and maybe it should stay that way because, Lord knows, regulation isn’t a great fix for industry issues either. However, I’ve seen far too many coaches and healers hop right over the line into therapy land with clients. I’m aware of far too many who claim to be trauma-informed because they took a weekend workshop and read some books.
This is not okay because collusion can happen when coaches/healers have not resolved their wounds. Rather than holding clear space and guiding clients to somatic expression, integration, and new story writing, they stop at the trauma story. They end up swapping trauma histories and reinforcing everything awful about abuse, neglect, violence, etc.
Both stay stuck and don't even realize what happened because they do feel better. There is such comfort in feeling less alone, but there is no permanent healing to be had this way. Feeling better does not equate to being healed.
